Adding a Spine item

There are often times when a new site needs to be added to or removed from a site’s Spine.

This Quick Tip is divided into two sections. One for adding a spine item and another for removing a spine item.

  • Notes:
    • For this tip you should already be on the page that needs the spine edit and logged into WordPress with editing rights.
    • While there are multiple ways to edit the Spine this tip covers the most straightforward method.

ADDING A SPINE ITEM

  1. While viewing the page click the Customize option in the top bar.
    1. A new menu will appear on the left hand side of the window.
  2. Click the “Menus” option
    1. Notice that the menu switches to display the current Menus.
      1. Global Menu
      2. Site
      3. Offsite links
    2. In this tutorial we will be selecting Site
  3. Click the Main Site Menu option
    1. You will see a complete list of everything that exists in the Spine of your site.
  4. Scroll to the very bottom of the Spine list and click on “+ Add Items”
      1. Another menu will appear that allows you to search for the specific page you want to add.
  5. From here you can add Custom Links, Pre-existing sites and external site links.

Note: If a menu item’s nesting needs to be adjusted it can be dragged to the appropriate nested level.

Removing a Spine item

There are often times when a new site needs to be added to or removed from a site’s Spine.

Removing a Spine item

  1. While viewing the page click the Customize option in the top bar.

  2. Click the “Menus” option
    1. Notice that the menu switches to display the current Menus.
      1. Global Menu
      2. Site
      3. Offsite links
    2. In this tutorial we will be selecting Site
  3. Click the Main Site Menu option
    1. You will see a complete list of everything that exists in the Spine of your site.
  4. Click on the Spine item you would like to remove.
    1. This will “pop out” the item and show you a little more detail about the item.
  5. Click “Remove” to delete the item from the Spine menu.
    1. NOTE: This will not remove the site from the page.
  6. Click the “Publish” button when you are ready to save your changes.
      1. Note that your button may be of a different color depending on your WordPress color scheme.
